How to easily impact your rooms with reflections| E-Neighborhood Advisor

Have you considered mirrors in your home decorating?

Many consider mirrors for their functionality, like over the bathroom sink. Yet they can bring much more to your space! Because of their reflective ability, mirrors expand the light and dimension of a room. That's why well-placed mirrors can make a room feel brighter, bigger and more airy.

When deciding where to place mirrored surfaces in your room consider what is getting reflected. Use them to replicate a beautiful view from an exterior window, a connecting room, a loved piece of artwork, or reflect a light source in the room.

Think beyond hanging mirrors. There are many mirrored accessories available from accent pieces to mirrored furnishings that can add style to your room.

Be careful about the size of a mirror. If it's too small, it will have minimal impact on the space, and if it’s too big, it could make some rooms feel lost. Install a mirror proportionate to the wall it will hang on, and limit mirrors or mirrored accessories to a few per room.

Another consideration is the style of the mirror. In a bedroom, you may consider sliding mirrored closet doors. On the walls in a family room, you may choose uniquely framed mirrors that add to the personality to the design theme. Mirrors can even be a focal point.

Here are some great examples.
