Multipurpose kid’s rooms | E-Neighborhood Advisor

Our kids have a lot going on, and sometimes they need their bedroom to do more than provide a place to sleep. It can be a challenge to make the space suit everything needed.

When our kids are young, they need room for toys and activities. Then when they are teens, that room needs to provide an area for studying, sleeping and a place where they can relax away from it all! Here are some ideas to make the most of those bedrooms.

Start with soothing bedroom colors. If the room is small, consider a full wall mural of a city or nature landscape to make the space feel larger.

To help make the room multifunctional, space can be created by raising the bed off the floor into a loft. That opens space underneath for a study or lounging area. The bed can be supported with posts or sturdy bookshelves.

For beds on the floor, the area around the headboard is a great place to build an alcove of drawers, shelves and cupboards. To find additional storage look into adaptable furniture like a bed built over drawers or with a mattress that lifts up to find storage underneath. A sitting bench or stools with hinged lids are also a great place for storage.
These spaces can be created with class and style, and they can be personalized to the unique preferences of your kids as they grow.
