3 Ways to Find Money for What You Want Most | E-Neighborhood Advisor

Have you ever wanted money for something important like a large purchase, going on a vacation with your family or home improvements? There are ways to find extra money without getting another job or going further into debt. Quite often making some small changes can help us find big money.

Bye-bye Packaging

It's been said that a lot gets learned about an individual or family by going through their trash. By learning what you give the trashman, you can reduce and remove unnecessarily spending. Do you throw away a lot of excess packaging, take-out containers or plastic containers?

Making a goal to reduce the amount of packaging that goes out of your home each week can save money. Two ways to do that, plan purchases by researching the best buying option for quality and price (look for bulk items with less packaging where you can); and waiting 30 days before purchasing wanted items. It’s surprising how often we won’t buy something after a 30-day waiting period.

So long Take-Away

We can often save money by tweaking the way we eat. That can include reducing or eliminating those take-out coffees, eating meals out, and convenience store stops. If you buy a $2 coffee each day that’s $60 per month. If it’s an $8 lunch, that’s $240 in a month. Actively tracking daily convenience spending for a month may surprise you! Consider filling a travel mug with coffee you made at home, and preplanning and making meals at home to save a lot.

Avoid Getting Nickle and Dimed

Review your overall budget and the details of each bill to see where expenses can get eliminated. Often there are add-on services that we can live without. Contact the companies you deal with and ask for lower-cost options. After all, many times if we don’t ask, we don’t get. Another place money goes out is in interest. Look at the interest charge on your credit card statement each month. Consider a larger debt payment each month, because the sooner debt gets paid, the more money you get to keep.

Here are even more ways to stretch your money.
