Kick that BAD Habit to the Curb!

Habits are those things we do over and over without thinking. That’s why the best way to break a habit is to think! It sounds simple enough, right? Simply focus on changing the behavior. Yet that habit lives on! Instead of focusing on the bad habit, start focusing on the way you’re thinking about the behavior. Consider:

When and How
When and how does it occur? Most habits only occur under certain situations that you can avoid or change altogether. If those are not options, then change what you bring into the situation. Look for a pattern that you can change.

What
What’s in it for you? What is that habit doing for you? Most habits, even annoying and harmful ones, serve (or once served) a purpose. Whatever the behavior it has/had a positive benefit and, though that benefit may be long gone, the behavior lives on. However, before eliminating a habit, be sure you aren't eliminating a useful benefit.

Want
Think about what you want instead. One of the best ways to break a habit is to replace it with something else. If you're going to go through the effort of kicking a habit to the curb, why not make sure you end up with a better habit? For example, if you want to break the habit of eating a bowl of ice cream every night, replace it with a walk around the block.

Make Up Your Own Holiday!

Saturday is a holiday! "What holiday?" you ask.

That's the best part! It’s ‘Make Up Your Own Holiday Day!’

Knowing you can create any holiday you want, what would you call it? Will it be practical, quirky, crazy, or an important day to celebrate, remember, or commemorate?

You need to know that there are already a lot of quirky Days throughout the year, so your idea may already be taken.

Back on March 2nd it was National Old Stuff Day and, in case you're thinking about a Nap Day, that’s taken too. March 14th was Napping Day. That was also Potato Chip Day.

March 22nd is Goof Off Day, the 23rd is Near Miss Day. Neighbor Day is on the 27th, Take a Walk in the Park Day is on the 30th, and World Backup Day is on the 31st.

Now that’s a practical day to remind you to backup your computer files before something goes awry.

P.S.  Who is the next person you know who needs new flooring right now?  Can I count on you to pass my name along to them?  You’ll be doing them a tremendous favor by referring them to a professional they can trust.  Plus you’ll be rewarded for your referrals!  Thank you!

Do You Join St. Patrick's Day Celebrations?

Though it was once a day to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick’s Day is now a festive day celebrated by people around the world regardless of where they’re from or their religious affiliation. From giving cards to gathering with friends for drinks and music, people celebrate in many ways.

March 17th is the day to put on green clothes and consume green drinks. However, did you know that the traditional color was once blue? Over time, with Ireland’s “Emerald Isle” nickname, it’s green flag, and the clover, green has become the symbolic color for St. Patrick’s Day.

That’s why green beverages are the mainstay. There are many green drink options too – beer, cocktails, lemonades, apple juice, or mint drinks, which are not only green but delicious. Scotch is another popular beverage for St Patrick’s Day. And, did you know green is a color well-known for inducing optimism? It’s very likeable for people at these parties.

Are you excited for St Patrick’s Day? I bet it will be entertaining for every Irish person in the world.

What is in a Name?

“What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name
 would smell as sweet.”

~ William Shakespeare

If you’re on Facebook, you have likely seen a fun post about names. Curtis do you know what your name means?  If so, I would love to hear about it.

March 6th is Namesake Day, a day that encourages exploring the roots of your name. Were you named after somebody?

March 7th is Fun Facts About Names Day, which is to encourage you to learn about the historical meanings and influences behind your and your family and friends’ names. How common or not so common is your name?

On The Name Meaning website there is a list of unusual names like the boys name Zosimos that is more common to Greek speaking countries. This is a strong name that means ‘Able to Survive’ in both Greek and Latin.

There’s a site that allows you to see What Your Name Says About You by the letter. And one that lets you get Behind the Name to see some etymology and history.

There are many sites that share name definitions. Of course, they are all in good fun and likely don’t accurately define the good person you are, but it can be interesting and entertaining to see what might be out there.

Simply Google ‘meaning of names’ to find some websites. The definitions of your name can make good conversation the next time you’re at an event where you need to wear a name-tag. There are even a few days in March dedicated to names!

March 10th is Name-tag Day. Then on the 11th it’s Middle Name Pride Day. These are just a few of the unusual days labeled in our calendar year.
