What is in a Name?

“What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name
 would smell as sweet.”

~ William Shakespeare

If you’re on Facebook, you have likely seen a fun post about names. Curtis do you know what your name means?  If so, I would love to hear about it.

March 6th is Namesake Day, a day that encourages exploring the roots of your name. Were you named after somebody?

March 7th is Fun Facts About Names Day, which is to encourage you to learn about the historical meanings and influences behind your and your family and friends’ names. How common or not so common is your name?

On The Name Meaning website there is a list of unusual names like the boys name Zosimos that is more common to Greek speaking countries. This is a strong name that means ‘Able to Survive’ in both Greek and Latin.

There’s a site that allows you to see What Your Name Says About You by the letter. And one that lets you get Behind the Name to see some etymology and history.

There are many sites that share name definitions. Of course, they are all in good fun and likely don’t accurately define the good person you are, but it can be interesting and entertaining to see what might be out there.

Simply Google ‘meaning of names’ to find some websites. The definitions of your name can make good conversation the next time you’re at an event where you need to wear a name-tag. There are even a few days in March dedicated to names!

March 10th is Name-tag Day. Then on the 11th it’s Middle Name Pride Day. These are just a few of the unusual days labeled in our calendar year.
