The most common types of flooring are carpets, hardwood, and tile, and every type has its benefits and drawbacks. What really matters is finding the type of flooring that suits your needs for the room you’re renovating.
For now, let’s look at the advantages and disadvantages carpet:
Advantages
Cost-effective: Compared to other available flooring options, good quality carpet can be over 50% less expensive than hardwood.
Aesthetics: The variety of colors and designs that carpet comes in allows you to match it to the décor in your home easily.
Insulation: Carpeting can add to the insulation of your home. It can also be a sound absorber. Both of those benefits can also be enhanced by a thick carpet pad, or by choosing carpet styles with a denser fiber.
Disadvantages
Maintenance: Carpets require a high level of maintenance to keep them looking clean and fresh. They need consistent vacuuming to keep them lint, hair, dust, and dander free, and they should ideally be deep cleaned at least twice every year.
Damage and Stains: Compared to other available flooring, carpet is more susceptible to damage and stains. For example, in extreme moisture conditions, they are prone to must and mildew, which can be harmful to people.
