How Often Should I Get My Carpet Professionally Cleaned - Capell Flooring

Matt Capell here. I'm the owner of Capell Flooring. Hey, I
just have another quick tip for you. Again, if you like these, please comment,
like them, share them. Let me know that you're liking the content. If you have
anything that you'd like me to discuss, please let me know.

Today, we get asked all the time how often should I clean my
carpet and that is a great question. Let's start with the basic minimum. Most
carpet mills require that you have your carpet cleaned a minimum of once every
18 months by what they call hot water truck-mounted extraction method. That's
kind of the minimum. After that, it just depends. 12 to 18 months, that seems
to be the sweet spot to keep your carpet looking good and lasting a long time.

The other thing too is all of your manufacture warranty stem
on that. If you don't have your carpet cleaned a minimum of once every 18
months, they will become null and void. The best example I've come up with is
having your oil changed or needing your tires rotated to keep your tire
warranties.

Carpet is the same way. If you don't get it cleaned, those
warranties will go away. The other thing too is for example let's say you have
a really busy household. You have five kids. You have three big dogs, two cats,
a lot of different things going on in that house. Sometimes, you might just need
to have your carpet cleaned more often.

For example, if a dog lays on the floor in a certain spot,
oils and things are going to get in that spot, carpet is going to get clumped
together, packed and mat a little bit.

That area is going to need to be cleaned more often, so it's
just something to keep in mind. Depending on your lifestyle and different
things, you might not need to have it cleaned every 18 months, but you just
have to be aware that your warranties could be voided. It's just something you
have to keep in mind. Hopefully, that helps. If you have any other questions or
if you'd like to get a stain cleaning chart from us, I'll put a link below
where you can get that from us and it tells you different types of things you
can get out yourself as well. (https://capellflooring.com/spotting-guide)

I appreciate that. If you have any questions, please let me
know and I look forward to talking to you again some other time. Thanks so
much.

101+ Ideas for Your Next Date Night

Do you remember the last time you went out on a date with your partner? Life gets busy, especially if you have young children or have been together for many years, and we don’t always remember to keep the romantic spark going. But the more work you put into building and maintaining your relationship with your partner, the better it is for both of you and for your family as a whole.

Whether you're looking for ideas to make Valentine's Day extra special, or you simply want more date nights, these ideas may be just the ticket:

Go for a walk! Remember the early days of getting to know each other… Walking hand-in-hand or arm-in-arm will bring back that a closer connection. Plus, without all the distractions of home, kids, and technology, going for a simple walk together can boost communication.

Get a babysitter! Go out for dinner – just the two of you. Or go all out: get an overnight sitter and hire a personal chef to prepare an at-home dining experience while you have a romantic night in together.

Choose a fun activity! Go dancing, go to a movie, or choose another activity that you both enjoy.

Sometimes looking back to those dating days and what you both enjoyed doing together will give you the perfect idea. If that doesn't work, here’s a site with 101 date night ideas in several different categories.

Will you install my flooring if I bought it somewhere else......Capell F...

Hi, Matt Capell here, I'm the owner of Capell Flooring here in the Boise, Idaho area.

Hey, we get asked this quite a bit so I thought I'd tackle this question for a minute, we get asked ... Like they buy their flooring, their tile or something similar else at another store or location, and then we get called and they say "Hey, would you install this for us?" So, just to tackle that a little bit, frequently asked question, things like that, the answer to that is unfortunately no.

There's just so many things that come into play that if ... For example if you buy the carpet from me we have people that will install it for you, and we arrange that for you and take care of it. If you buy it somewhere else, and for example if there's an issue with the flooring or something else, then we have no leverage, no way to resolve the problem for you because it didn't come from us.

And that's just kind of a liability and things with our warranties and what we do that we just can't go there. And, you know, in the spirit of good fun and humor, something we will say is for example if you bought a steak at Albertson's here locally, because Albertson's is big here right, or WinCo, or whatever, and you ran down to Sizzler and said "Hey, will you cook this steak for me?" They're going to smile at you and probably say no. That's kind of similar with us, if you buy the tile we'll install it, but if you buy it somewhere else we just can't install it for you.

I hope you understand, and if you have any other questions about that please just comment below or ask away, I'm more than happy to answer for you, and I appreciate you taking time to watch this video. Thanks a lot!

A Fun Activity You Can Do at Home….. Clementine Candles

A few years back, I lived in France for a couple of years.  While in the southern town of Montauban, France, I became friends with the Tapie’s.  They were a great family and a lot of fun, and they showed me a lot of fun things while there.  I think it is fun and ironic that their last name means “Carpets” in French.  Maybe it was subliminal thing to me from my carpet and flooring experience with our family business Capell Flooring andInteriors.  ;)  One night while I was at their home, they asked me if I had ever seen a Clementine Candle. I had not at that point, and of course I was interested.  So they proceeded to grab one out of the fridge and show me how it was done

  1. Step 1: Cut the tangerine/clementine. Cut through the skin of the tangerine around the circumference……in a circular motion ...
  2. Step 2: Peel the tangerine/clementine. CAREFULLY peel the skin off of the top of the tangerine first. ...
  3. Step 3: Eat the segments! .........This is necessary step – they taste delicious when in season
  4. Step 4: Cut a hole in the non-stem half of the tangerine. ...
  5. Step 5: Add olive oil to the stem and soak the stem at the bottom of the peel that forms a little bowl essentially...
  6. Step 6: Light your candle!
  7. Step 7: Enjoy the fragrance that these little candles put off because they smell great.
I will always remember to this day how much fun that was that night learning about Clementine Candles.  I have now for years shown this to my family and friends, but I decided this week that I needed to share this with my friends from Capell Flooring andInteriors on my blog.  We are all about flooring, homes, design, and giving practical tips to our readers.
Here is a quick video showing you in a little more detail how to make your own, enjoy!

3 Things About Your Facebook Friends

Facebook is a great tool for staying in touch with friends and family all over the world, but it also comes with some drawbacks. Here are three ways to customize your Facebook experience to make dealing with your friends just a little bit easier:

You can add all their birthdays and events on your digital calendar at once.

You can get the Facebook Calendar links for your friends’ birthday and events, then add those to your Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, or Google Calendar. Here's how.

A note about the instructions at the link above, you may need to right-click on the Birthdays and Events links and then copy the link address.

To add to those URLs to your digital calendar in ...

Apple iCal –
1. Go to Calendar > Subscribe
2. enter the URL.

Google Calendar –
1. Open Google Calendar and click on the down arrow to the right of ‘Other Calendars.’
2. Click 'Add by URL,'
3. Paste the URL and click on ‘Add Calendar’. (NOTE: If you have the new Google Calendar layout, start by clicking the + sign to the right of 'Add a friend's calendar,' then 'Add by URL.')

Microsoft Outlook –
1. Click on your Outlook Calendar,
2. Click on ‘Open Calendar’ under ‘Manage Calendars’.
3. Next Click on 'From the Internet.’

You can protect your friends’ identities.

By default, everyone sees your friends list, but there are many reasons you might not want that to be public information. Fortunately, you can hide that list so that it is not visible to the public. Here's how.

You can choose which friends get to see the content you post.

When adding a post to Facebook, you can choose who gets to see it by selecting your audience from a drop-down menu to the left of the Post button.

You can also choose who sees any post or photo you have been tagged in. See the instructions here.

Buying Dark Hardwood Flooring - Things to Consider - Capell Flooring

Hi. Matt Capell here. I'm the owner of Capell Flooring, here in Meridian. Hey, I just got another buying tip for you here. If you like this, please comment, share below, share with your friends, so I know what type of content to make for you, okay? Or if you have any questions, please put it below and I'll make a video just for you.

Right now, with different hardwoods and things, one thing that you need to be aware of is, the darker woods like this, that are really popular right now, I just want you to be aware of one thing when making that purchase, so that way you can decide whether or not you're okay with this.

For example, I have a wood here that's dark, that we stained. If you can look really closely, with hardwood flooring you can see the dust a lot easier with darker floors. If I go like this, see how I'm wiping the dust off here? Now my hand's gross. If you buy wood, and you get a darker color, just be prepared to know that you're more apt to see the dust and that you will have to probably sweep a little bit more often. It's not a problem, it's just something that you need to be aware of when buying something like this, versus something like this on the floor, like maple that's light. You're not going to see the dust nearly as much.

I just want to make sure you understood that, so when you're buying these pretty, beautiful hardwood floors, make sure you know that, okay? Appreciate you taking time to watch this video, and we will talk to you soon.  Have a great day!

Services We Offer Rug Binding and Creation - Capell Flooring

Hi, Matt Capell, owner of Capell Flooring and Interiors.

Hey, one service that we do here in the Treasure Valley that a lot of people might not be aware of is, we do custom rug binding. For example, if you ever see the red carpet, the village that they bring out, like when Matt Damon was here, different things like that, my company made that. And basically, what we do is ... so whenever you're buying hard surface or anything like that, sometimes it's nice to get an area rug. Or with the leftover carpet that you have, we can bind edges, cut them to any size.

Or a lot of times, people just come in, will pick out any type of carpet that you want and then we'll bind edges for you and we'll turn it into a rug. And we can make it any size, we can seam it, shrink, whatever. So, here's some examples of rugs that we just recently did for customers where you bind the edges. And we have a machine that does that. And you can have different rugs like that.

And then, for example, this is a rug we have by our front desk here that we have edges bound so we can show people what we're capable of doing. But this is just a great way to ... they work really good for front doors, entryways, we can make really big ones, if your family rooms hardwood, or things like that, great room.

But this is just kind of a nice way to do it. It's not very expensive and they turn out really nice and makes for a nice finished product, doesn't fray. We can also get a rubber backing for you so if you're worried this is kind of like sandpaper, and this will keep it from scratching your hardwood, things like that. So we can also add that as part of it, too.

So if you're interested in that or know somebody that would like an area rug done, we do them all the time and we look forward to helping you. Thanks so much.

What really is a Wear Warranty with Carpet? Capell Flooring and Interiors

Hi, Matt Capell here, I'm the owner of Capell Flooring here in the Treasure Valley. Hey, if you like videos like this be sure to like and share and comment below and I'll address it and do any type of video you'd like in the future. So that being said I wanted to talk today a little bit about carpet and wear warranties.

So when I first started to do this full time I had a misconception about wear warranties as well, I thought that if carpet in an area just laid down that that meant that it was part of the wear warranty.

So I just wanted to address this because I want to make you a better consumer, shopper and to have the correct expectations. So this is pretty much universal across all carpet mills. I haven't heard of an exception. If you have let me know and I'll look into it. But basically what a wear warranty means is that your carpet not only will lay down, and also with texture retention that also means that the carpet fiber won't untwist and lay down which that almost never happens. The other thing too is with wear warranties in areas like hallways, stairs, or what they consider a heavy traffic area, the wear warranties are void or don't exist.

So basically all the areas where you actually need a wear warranty it just doesn't exist. And that's because at the end of the day if you think about it carpet is fabric and what it does is amazing but in those areas ... it's like for example, in your back yard if you have a path that you walk all the time on your lawn, the lawn's gonna die. It just is right? So basically you just have to keep that in mind, and some times in some areas where it's heavy traffic like a hall, stairway, or whatever it's best if you can just vacuum those areas more often and sometimes you have to clean them more often and that's just part of the game.

So hopefully that helps makes you a better shopper and if you have any questions, comments please put it down below and I will be more than happy to respond to each and every one of them. Thanks so much and have a wonderful day.

Consumer Guide to Flooring - Misconception #7 - Capell Flooring - Price ...

Hi. Matt Capell here. I'm the owner of Capell Flooring and Interiors here in Meridian, Idaho. Hey, I have this book here called The Consumer Guide to Floor Covering. Basically, what it is, is it's a guide to make you a better shopper when shopping for flooring.

Today, I just wanted to read one little section of it to you. If you have any questions, please like or comment below. Feel free to share this. Today, I have like a section here that does different misconceptions, and this happens to be misconception number seven. It says, "Any honest floor dealer should be able to give you an accurate price over the phone." Basically, the answer to that is no, and here's why.

Here's what I say. "There are four items that must be reviewed before a dealer can give you an accurate price quote." Okay? The first one is the kind of flooring you need. Number two, the size of the rooms. Three, the shape of the rooms, and four, any special needs that might affect the installation. Any dealer who does not review these four items is basically guessing at the price.

Here at Capell Flooring, we like to give you a no-surprise quote, and so it's very important and why we like you to come in and see us first. We'll sit down. We do our trademarked Design Audit, go through a series of questions, find out what's best for you and your situation. Then at that point we'll send somebody out to take measurements, and then we can get you an accurate quote that we know is going to be accurate work, and it'll be 100% accurate. But over the phone, it's just too hard. I mean, there's just too many variables and things. The other thing that's difficult is, for example, if you say, "Hey, I'd like a quote," and you say, "It's 1,500 square feet," when carpet waste, it's kind of like a big sewing project, and it can be between anywhere from like three to 20% waste, and so it's just you're guessing at that point.

I just wanted you to know that that misconception, it's very difficult to do it over the phone, because you have to see it and you have to pick out some products first. Hopefully that makes you a better shopper. Would love to have you come in and see us here at our showroom here in Meridian, and we'll talk to you soon. Thanks so much, and appreciate it. If you haven't, please come by and get a free copy of this book, or you can go to https://consumersguidetoflooring.com and download one for free. Thanks so much, and have a great day!

Winter Weather Hacks

Cold weather got you down? We want you to have a safe, happy, and healthy winter season. Here are some tips to help.

For you.

Dryer sheets can help remove static and frizz from your hair. Gently smooth a sheet over hair from crown to tip.

If you need a little extra warmth inside your footwear, cut wool batting or old sweaters to the shape of the insole and slip them inside before you put your feet in.

For your clothes.

If you have tall boots that flop over in your closet, cut pool noodles to the right height and slip them inside the boot leg. That will help prevent them from collapsing and losing their shape, or getting creased over time.

If your boots or shoes get wet, microfiber towels can dry them without too much rubbing (which could ruin the texture of your footwear).

a quick start for your fireplace, stuff dryer lint into an empty toilet paper roll, place inside your stacked wood, and carefully light with a match or lighter.

For your home.

If you've been cooking, save a little on the heating bill for your house by leaving the oven open as it cools. This allows the heat to escape into the room.

Close the doors of unused rooms that have no plumbing to contain the heat where you need it most.

Stop snow from sticking to your shovel by spraying it with silicone or cooking spray. And if the snow is light, use a broom instead of the shovel.

For your car.

A few drops of hand sanitizer on your key may help release a frozen door lock.

Chapstick or Vaseline around the weather-stripping of your car doors can help prevent them from sticking in cold weather.

Keep your feet (and room) a little warmer with area rugs on your hardwood floors.

There are a lot more ideas on the internet. It’s important to note that I haven't tried all the ideas in this email, but the area rugs are something we can help you get!

That Beautiful Dark Hardwood and Laminates…..Some things to Consider Before Buying…

That Beautiful Dark Hardwood and Laminates…..Some things to Consider Before Buying…

Who can argue that dark hardwood and laminate woods are not beautiful.  They really are beautiful.  There is nothing quite like a walnut hardwood.  There is a richness and depth in color that is breathtaking to look at and experience in a home.  The same goes for laminate wood and luxury vinyl planking that looks so real.  There are a couple small drawbacks that you need to be aware of so you can make an informed decision before buying one of these floors.

Dark floors will show dust a lot easier than other lighter floors.  There is really no other way around it.  If you have ever had a black suit, dress pants, or a blouse that is black, you will most likely have noticed that black will show every piece of lint, fuzz, and anything else that is light.  A dark hardwood/laminate wood likewise will show dust easier than a medium or lighter tone wood.  It is unavoidable.  There really isn’t any other way around it.  The other issue with a natural hardwood such as Walnut, is that walnut is a softer hardwood it will scratch easier than other hardwoods.  Scratches also tend to be lighter in the wood, so they show easier.  This is also true of a dark laminate or luxury vinyl plank.  The core will be lighter, and it will show scratches more readily.

At Capell Flooring and Interiors, we like to shoot straight with our customers and let them know what to expect.  People buy these darker floors all the time and they successfully add to the overall beauty of their homes.  We just want you to know what you are getting into before buying, because if you are like me and don’t like to clean and sweep a lot, then these choices might not be the ones that you are looking for.  We want you to make the best decision for your home, and we want you to like what you pick.

Thanks for reading,

Matt Capell

Why I like Pizza?

Why I like Pizza?

Even though I was very young, from as far back as I can remember, Pizza has been my favorite food.  It is just the right combination of several different ingredients – the dough, the sauce, and lots and lots of toppings, meat, veggies, etc.  My favorite has to be Hawaiian, with good ole’ Canadian Bacon and Pineapple, and if you are in Boise area, you should give Chicago Connection a try, their pizza is excellent.  I like to make pizza myself too, and I love all types and brands of pizza.  They are all good to me in one way or another.  I love analogies, and I love comparing things to what I do here at Capell Flooring and Interiors, in Meridian, Idaho, so I am going to give it a try with pizza.

Pizza is really similar to flooring – you might be asking me, yeah right, Matt?!?  Hang with me, and let’s explore for a minute what I’m talking about.  You need to have great ingredients with pizza, or in the case with flooring, really good products such as carpet, vinyl, tile or wood.  The thing that ends up making or breaking a pizza though, is how those different types of toppings, sauces, and dough are assembled and ultimately cooked by a cook/chef who knows what they are doing.  If they combine things together well and cook them just right, you have an awesome dish and one that you will enjoy eating.

Flooring is much the same way in that if it isn’t installed well, then it doesn’t matter how good the carpet or wood is, the end result isn’t going to be a nice looking new floor. If there is ever a problem with your labor, we will work through it with you. All this talking about pizza has made me want one…..are you with me on that?

Thanks for reading,

Selecting carpet - How to dial in your color? White paper trick - Capell...

Hi, Matt Capell, with Capell Flooring here in the Boise area.
Hey, if you like these videos, please like, comment, share below so I know which ones you like. If you have anything that you'd like to know, comment below and I will ... I'll address it in a video for you.

So, when buying carpet, this is a little trick that I learned actually from my mother a long time ago. And it helps a lot.

So, if you're looking at a particular carpet sample here, and you're looking at the colors, first of all, it's always important to take the carpet sample out and lay it on the floor like so. Because you're going to have the light refracting off of it and it's important to see it that way.

The other thing, too, is its really hard kind of pick a color this way. Or one thing that you're aware of is, let's say, for example, you really like this color, your eye is an amazing thing. It will actually process all the colors around it. And sometimes it can make it a little difficult or harder to select an actual carpet.

So, if you just take normal white paper, grab it from your printer or something like that. And what you do is you put white around one at a time that you're interested in. So you just cover it up like this. And you'll take a look at it. and you're like, "Okay, do I really like this color or do I not?"
And what helps ... well, the reason you put the white paper around it is you void out all the color. And what happens is if you don't have that, your eye kind of jumps around, even though you're not aware of it. And it's taking in all the other color around it. And it can make it difficult or sometimes hard to pick a color.

The other thing you can do, too, here is ... so you like look at one, and you go like, "Okay, well, I'm going to compare it to this one." You can look at it like that. And cover it up like that....

The other, too, when buying carpet, it's really important to, if you can, to stand up and if you can just step back about five, ten feet like so, and look at it that way, that's how you're going to see it on a large scale. And also, it will help because the light will refract off of it and that's how you're going to see it, too.

For example, if you look really closely at this carpet, there's probably about five, six different colors in it. But what happens is your eye will blend it when it becomes on a large scale.

So, I would highly recommend using this white paper trick when you're picking out carpet. If you come to see us here at Capell Flooring, we do it all the time, because it just helps you dial in that color and find the right color for your house and your space.

The Life of Your Dreams

It's a new year and a great time to freshen things up, stop procrastinating (if you do), and start living the life of your dreams!

That may make you think, "I don't know what kind of life I want," or something similar. Well, it's time to start figuring that out. That is, determine how you want your ideal life to look.

Consider what you'd prefer your life to look like in five years. You may want to write this down!

Your Mornings

Ask yourself ...
• What time do I get up?
• How do I feel?
• What does the room smell like? How does it look?
• Who am I with?
• What do I do next, where do I go?
Write out all the details you can think of!

Your Days

Ask yourself ...

• How do I earn a living?
• What is my role? Employee or entrepreneur?
• Where do I work? What time do I arrive?
• How many hours do I work?
• How do I dress?
• What time do I go home?
• If I'm not working, what fills my days?
• What kind of people am I sharing my time with?
• What activities am I doing? How do those activities make me feel?
Imagine everything as thoroughly as possible.

Your Evenings

Ask yourself ...

• What happens as my day winds down?
• Who am I with? What do we do together?
• What is my routine for before and after dinner?
• What am I listening to, watching or reading?
• What time do I go to bed?
• What is my bedtime routine?

Capture those details in as much clarity as you can. Consider writing it in a journal where you can build upon it, reflect on it or reconsider what that ideal day looks like moving forward.

The clearer we get about the life we want, the easier it becomes to determine what we need to do to get there – and decide to do it.

May 2018 be your year to start creating the life you want to be living, today and five years from now.
