Capell Flooring and Interiors - Meet Justin Phipps

My name is Justin Phipps and I grew up near Tucson, Arizona.  I attended Boise State University and graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems in 1998.  I am married to my wife Nicole, and have two daughters; Amber and
Justin Phipps - Capell Flooring and Interiors
Aubrey.  One of my favorite things to do is long distance running.

I ran cross country in high school and have braved the Race to Robbie Creek 8 times; finishing in the top 25 on 3 different occasions!  I love to stay active and spend a lot of time with my family on various things like: running, basketball, and Boise State Football.  I have had the privilege of working with Capell Flooring 1996; first starting as an installer and learning how to install carpet, tile, laminate, and vinyl along the way. I currently work in management and estimating and I do have to say that my degree in CIS helps with precision and accuracy.  I am a highly energetic person with a friendly outgoing attitude and I love helping and contributing to the flooring store in the Treasure Valley. I look forward to helping you with your next project!

Boise is a Great Place to Live

Let’s face it, I’m biased.  I was born in downtown Boise’s St. Luke’s Hospital and grew up in South Meridian.  After going off to school, I got married and came back.  The Treasure Valley is a great place to live, and I wanted to give you a perspective from a small business owner that owns Capell Flooring and Interiors that was born and raised here.

Although, the population has grown a lot since I was born in the 1970’s, Boise still is relatively small compared to other cities in the Northwest.  You have a smaller town feel, but you also have all the amenities of a larger city.  I happen to be a big sports fan, and love Boise State sports, especially their football and basketball teams.  No, we don’t have any NBA, NFL, or MLB teams, but we continue to be a great and supportive minor sports league town as well.

Boise is what I would call the best of both worlds.  To further explain, Boise is large enough to have lots of options, events, and things to do.  On the flip side, it is small enough that you can get to know your neighbors and you can experience some great and genuine Idaho hospitality.  I see Boise as having common ground and a good give and take between the size of the town and things to do.

National magazines, websites, and other national sources have Boise ranked often as one of the best places to live, best places to do business, and the list goes on and on.  Click here to see one of the most recent postings where Boise is ranked by the Brookings Institute, KPMG, and Forbes.  If you are looking for a place to live where the city and surrounding areas are great as well as the people, come give the Boise area, nestled in what we call the Treasure Valley in Southwest Idaho, a try.
One of our awesome customers rolled in with this truck.  Justin and I had to take a picture with it.

A Positive Plug for Polyester Carpet ~ Capell Flooring and Interiors

There was a time in the United States when anybody that was anybody would only purchase wool carpeting.  You just didn't buy synthetic carpet.  When nylon carpet first came out there was resistance to it, and people didn't necessarily want to switch from wool.   In the same way that it was difficult for people to switch from wool to nylon in the past, today the same thing seems to happening with nylon and polyester carpeting.

When polyester first came out flooring manufacturers didn't really know how to make it very well, and in turn it got a bad reputation as “not a good carpet fiber.”  The best analogy that I can come up with is with clothing.  The polyester clothing of the 1960’s and 1970’s wasn't super great either.  As manufacturers have gotten better at making clothing, I would argue that polyester clothes of today are highly sought after and are desirable now in comparison to yester year’s polyester clothing.  Polyester carpet is also the same way today, as suppliers have gotten better at making it into carpet it is becoming more sought after. .

Polyester has always been naturally more stain resistant than nylon carpet; especially if the polyester carpet has been solution-dyed.  This step makes it so polyester will resist even bleach!  Nylon carpet has what is called “open dye ports,” so if they are left untreated, nylon has an affinity for staining.  That is why almost all nylon carpet is treated with some stain resistant treatment, such as Scotch-guard, Stainmaster, Shaw’s R2X, etc.  Recently, carpet mills have discovered how to make polyester carpet into a continuous filament fiber as well.  Basically what that means, is that the carpet rather than just being in small strands can actually be spun
Continuous Filament Carpet Thread in different colors.
into thread.  As the name suggests, it is essentially one long continuous strand of fiber that is used to make carpet.  Maybe in more simple terms, picture it like one big spool of thread.  Polyester is going to be more stain resistant than nylon if made well, and nylon tends to be more resilient - or wear better.

Over the past decade since the year 2000, we have seen the prices at the pump continue to go up and up.  Gasoline not only has a direct impact on carpet through means of shipping, but nylon carpet is made out of petroleum as well.   As nylon carpet keeps getting more and more expensive, it might be worthwhile to take a look at the new continuous filament, solution dyed polyester carpets.  Change is inevitable in the world, as well as, with flooring.  We see as technology and manufacturing improves each and every year, polyester carpet might need a second look and quite frankly might be like the clothes at the department stores, and what you are really looking for after all in a floor after all.

Hardwood Refinishing Service - Capell Flooring and Interiors

Hardwood Refinishing Service – Capell Flooring and Interiors

Replacing your beautiful hardwood floors can get expensive. To extend the life of your flooring Capell Flooring and Interiors offers a top of the line hardwood flooring refinishing service. As sad as it is, hardwood floors won’t last forever, but this service can make that dull-looking floor look new again.
Hardwood floors can get dinged up, stained and scratched throughout the years. Kids, animals and just heavy foot traffic will beat up the floor and that is something we have to accept. But it doesn't have to stay that way. With Capell Flooring and Interiors hardwood flooring refinishing, extending the life of your hardwood flooring can be a reality.

Once you figure out which room you want refinished the first thing that needs to be done is clearing the room
out of all furniture. Give the room a good vacuum and mop to get any debris and dust off the floor. Next, make sure the room is sealed up to keep any dust from sanding in the room. Also cover any electrical outlets and air vents to prevent spreading of dust as well. Turning off the air conditioning or heat will prevent any dust from circulating throughout the house.
After that you have a few options.
  • Sanding the dull-looking hardwood floors is the typical option for homeowners. Sanding will remove any dings, stains or scratches on the floor and best prepare the hardwood for a new coat of hardwood finish.
  • Dustless sanding is another option and the name speaks for itself. While it is not 100 percent dust free, the equipment used in this process doesn't allow as much dust to escape into the room. This is a great option for people with allergies.
  • Maintenance coats of hardwood finish can also be used. This is more of a quick fix for those dull floors and won’t last as long as traditional sand and refinish because it doesn't get all the scratches in a floor out.  It is still a nice option that costs less.
The professionals at Capell Flooring and Interiors also sand around the baseboards of the room to ensure every section of the room is hit so there is no unevenness in the look of the final product. We also make sure to clean up any dust and/or debris before applying the new coat of finish. Capell Flooring and Interiors normally applies two to three coats of hardwood finish down on the hardwood floors to ensure the best quality and best looking final product.

We know there are a lot of do-it yourselfers out there, but this process should be left to the professionals at Capell Flooring and Interiors. We will get the job done right and in a timely fashion. We take the hassle out of you doing it all on your own. For more information or to set up an appointment contact us at (208) 288-0151 or email us at sales@capellinteriors.com. Capell Flooring and Interiors proudly serves the residents in Boise, Meridian, and the surrounding areas in the Treasure Valley in Idaho, and will be glad to give your hardwood flooring a new look.

Selecting Your Countertops

There are many different ways to use a countertop surface to your advantage. Having the right material and
placement will go a long way towards making life at home easier. Here are some ways that you can determine which countertop products will fit you best:
  • Where is the surface going? Your needs will be different depending on where you place your countertop. For example, a kitchen countertop will need to be resilient and easy to clean. You may want to consider granite, which is hard enough to withstand sharp knives and can be sealed to repel stains and bacteria. Many choose porcelain or ceramic for the bathroom because it has a high resistance to moisture. Finished hardwood looks great in entertainment areas where picture frames and decorations will rest on the surface.  It is typically a good idea to consider where you are installing your countertop before making any decisions on the material.
  • Consider the level of maintenance you want. Copper can be a bold and luxurious look for a kitchen that is rarely used but meant to entertain. However, it will require more maintenance than other choices. Natural stone also requires higher maintenance because it needs to be sealed and protected from oil or acid damage.  Ceramic tile can be an affordable but easy to care for material for family homes. It offers a budget friendly solution. The same can be said for laminate counters, which last a decent amount of time and are durable.  The colors and choices of laminate counters have improved drastically over the past 5 years as well. Some countertops will need more cleaning than others. Refer to your manufacturer’s information, if you have technical questions or we can point you in the right direction.
  • Know your budget. Either save up or plan to spend based on what you have to spend now. That is the easiest way to pay for any home renovation without stress! Our quotes are always accurate and can help you plan better.
Find the countertops you need and installation service at our showroom in Meridian, Idaho at Capell Flooring and Interiors.

Vinyl Flooring – “It is not your grandmother’s vinyl floor of years past”

Vinyl Flooring – “It is not your grandmother’s vinyl floor of years past”

Vinyl has been a top selling flooring choice for many years. Although it had rough beginnings due to its limited designs, today’s market has embraced vinyl. This resilient flooring type can be found in sheet form or vinyl tiles at Capell Flooring and Interiors in Meridian, Idaho. One of the top selling points of this floor covering is the fact that it offers high quality for homes without the sticker shock of other floor types. Better still, it has become a favorite of interior designers because of the hundreds of patterns available! Capell Flooring and Interiors offers quality resilient vinyl sheet goods and vinyl tile floors.

We deliver the products that you need for your home or office with reliability. Then you have the option to use one of our helpful services. Design consultation allows you to create a design plan that works best for your home. Free estimates make it easy to plan ahead to stick to your budget. In-home measurement makes getting the right amount of flooring simple. Installation is offered for all customers who want professional results. All installers have the necessary experience, licenses, and insurance for the best results. When you need a team that can improve your home, we are up to the challenge every time.

A Resilient Option

“Resilient” can mean many things. In this case, the term “resilient” refers to vinyl’s ability to absorb shocks. That means that dropping items on its surface or exposing it to heavy foot traffic will not harm the surface. Instead, vinyl can absorb the impact and “pop” back out into its original shape. This makes for a very durable and long lasting floor. Vinyl is also famous for a number of other great benefits. Some of those benefits include:
  • A Softer Surface: People who walk across vinyl for the first time often remark, “It’s softer than I thought it would be.” The springy feeling that resilient flooring has may help with joint and back aches compared to harder surfaces such as hardwood or tile. Most hard surfaced floor types are durable, but they can be uncomfortable. This includes hardwood and ceramic tile. Soft surface flooring like carpet is more comfortable, but less durable. Vinyl is a happy medium with some level of softness and shock absorption plus durability.
  • Easier Cleaning: You can spend less time scrubbing, shampooing, and polishing. This low maintenance flooring option stays clean. It does not stain or absorb bad odors from food, smoke, and pets. Scratches are rare, and tight seams will not collect dirt or bacteria. You can use a dust mop, broom, or lightly dampened cloth to clean your vinyl flooring. You can save money over time by skipping the professional cleaning services needed for other floors, too.
  • Safety and Strength: Vinyl is considered a safer option for a number of reasons. The softer surface provides extra protection for falls or dropped items around the house. It does not ignite when it comes into contact with fire.  It will not release dangerous chemicals or require harsh cleaners. This floor can resist water and heat well. It will stand up to harsh UV rays and won’t swell with changing temperatures or moisture, and more!
If you are looking for the best on vinyl sheet and vinyl tile flooring, please come visit our showroom, in Meridian, Idaho, or give us a call at (208) 288-0151
