How Do You Feel About Your Productivity?

Whether a mom, dad, pre-parent, or post-parent, I'll bet there are things you'd like to do more effectively. Here are some ways to improve and get the most out of your day.

Get Proper Sleep

It's actually counterproductive when we're tired and pushing ourselves past the point of fatigue, even past exhaustion. Rather than being more productive, fatigue will actually slow us down and hinder out mental capacity to focus steadily on the task at hand.

Eliminate Distractions

In our world of technology there is always something chiming into our personal space, like email, phone notifications, television, games ... the list goes on! Basically, anything that takes attention away from what we should be doing, when we're supposed to be doing it is a distraction.

Cut out distraction potential for as many things as possible. Silence notification sounds by putting your cell phone on airplane mode or silencing the ringer. Turn off the TV and put whatever draws your attention out of sight. Then, turn your mind and senses to the task at hand.

Conquer the Big Frogs First

A good book that explains this concept is Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy.
Basically, do the tasks that you dread the most first. This may seem odd, but once those tasks are out of the way, there's an uplift to the day and it gets better.

Plan it Out

Create an actionable plan to complete the task. As an example, below is a plan to ease mealtime through the week.

  • Plan a weekly menu around store sales (helps save money too).
  • Check the pantry to know what you already have in the house.
  • Check for other needs in the house, like bathroom toiletries, shampoos, soaps, etc. (saves mid-week emergency shopping trips).
  • Create an organized shopping list (produce, meats, grains, dairy…). In fact, there are some great grocery shopping phone apps to help. Search the app store.
  • Plan store stops and go shopping.
  • Spend time Sunday afternoon doing food preparation for the week.

Git Er Done!

This encouraging and supportive redneck phrase is the main action we need to take, because many times we know what to do and how to do it, but we let everything else take priority. Instead, we just need to get the work done. Does this sound familiar to you?
