Hi Friends,
Unlike the gentle name,
planet Venus is not the most hospitable place for humans. It’s
exceptionally hot for one thing: around 860 degrees F (460 C). Probes
that do land on the surface send back only a couple of hours of data before
melting into a puddle.
But now, some NASA
scientists think it’s a pretty fine idea to go back to Venus, with astronaut
missions no less. Only not to the surface, thanks very much.
Instead, the research
concept called Project HAVOC envisions airships cruising through the toxic
(but romantic) skies above the planet.
These helium-filled
balloons would hover 30 miles above the surface, where the temperature is a
balmy 167 Fahrenheit.
Project HAVOC envisions
eventual cloud cities over Venus.
So it’s only a matter of
time before we get the glossy ads and brochures!
